To walk with God takes faith, and walking with God increases our faith. It’s a gift.
The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” Luke 17:5 NIV.
The disciples walked with Jesus daily. They listened to His teaching and spoke with Him. They even asked him questions. So why did Jesus tell them they had little faith?
… you of little faith? Luke 12:28b NIV.
What is faith?
Can you see it or hold it in your hand to measure it? Can we lay it on a scale to weigh it? How do we know if we have little or no faith?
What causes our faith to increase or decrease?
God comes and breathes on our souls, and we know He is real. As we wholeheartedly trust Him, we are given treasured measures of faith in Spirit and Truth.
Faith is a gift from God.
It comes as we spend more time with Him – knowing Him intimately. I increase as we walk with Him and talk with Him. On the other hand, our faith fades as we begin to trust ourselves, lean on the faithless, and rely on the godless ones.
The gift fades without the light of His presence to nourish it.
If the Lord came down, right now, to visit you. What would He see? Would He find you faithful? If you said to you, “Oh ye of little faith,” would that bother you or not?
Would you be numbered among the faithful?
O Lord! Increase my faith!
Come to the Garden
by C. Austin Miles (1912)
I come to the garden alone, while the dew is still on the roses, and the voice I hear falling on my ear, the Son of God discloses.
… And He walks with me and He talks with me And He tells me I am His own. And the joy we share, as we tarry there, none other has ever known.
The deep sense of personal companionship with the Lord is intimate and increases our faith. What a privilege it is to walk daily with Jesus!
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, For I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go,Teach me to do your will, For you are my God, May your good Spirit Lead me on level ground Ps 143:8 & 10 NIV.
